Debt Consolidation Loan ? The Best Way to Lessen the Burdens of ...

Studying abroad or going for a management degree costs you a hefty amount, which surely is not something that everyone can easily afford. Money becomes a hindrance to the growth of a child having a caliber to perform, and show his or her talent to the world. Due to this very reason, a number of students drop their ideas of higher education and continue pursuing their jobs in hand to make a living.

?

On the other hand, many aspiring students go ahead with their higher education plans by availing loans. They might work along with their education to pay their loans. While some succeed in paying off their loans, others fail.

?

People usually have a habit of purchasing unnecessary items even when their pockets do not allow. Some people even use their credit cards like there is no tomorrow. However, when its time to make the minimum payments, they find it difficult and fall behind. This will increase the principle amount due to late payment charges, and interest amount keeps piling up each month.

?

Your monthly expense like phone bills, auto loans, housing loans and others will keep haunting your peace of mind at the end of every month. Well, the ultimate solution could be opting for a debt consolidation loan, wherein all your loans could be clubbed into a single loan, which has to be paid regularly every month. This will free you from the burden of paying various different loans on separate due dates.

?

Find yourself a lender

By opting for a debt consolidation loan, you could ensure that your credit score is not impacted in anyway. Such a loan can help you avoid any late payment fees, and you could also secure your good credit history. However, your trustworthiness and a positive intention to pay the loan off, is more important here. Most of the companies offer such loans even over the internet, and it is quite easy for you to opt for one. These financial institutes update their websites are regularly with all the relevant information to assist their potential as well as existing clients.

?

Ways to get a loan

Majority of the financial institutes look into your background, job status, income, expenses, credit history, and any existing pending loans. Basically, the lenders will make sure that you have the necessary means to repay their loans. There are a number of ways to apply for a consolidated loan, but it is recommended that you consult your financial advisor before you opt for one.

The easiest way to get a loan is by applying over the internet. This can save your time and money on travelling.

?

Benefits of acquiring Debt consolidation loan

  • Low rate of interest
  • Easy to pay repayment plans
  • One payment per month
  • Elimination or reduction of late payment fees
  • Be debt free as soon as possible
  • Absolutely no collection calls
  • Enhance your credit rating
  • Debt counseling at free of cost

?

Once you consolidate your debt, the company will negotiate with all your old lenders and come up with an easy repayment plan. You will stop getting any harassment calls for collections. However, you will need to make it a point that you do not default on your consolidated plan. Coming out of such a situation would be a serious uphill task.

?

Besides everything else, it is suggested that you do a little groundwork about the company with whom you?ll be dealing with. There are a number of fraudsters who will try to fleece you to your last penny. Thus, research well before you apply for consolidation of all your loans.

?

If you are looking for information about payday loans, then you must read the articles that are published by James Hargreeves. He has written a lot of articles and blogs on finance and loan related subjects.

Establish a budget in advance. Once you start making profits you will be tempter to keep the money for yourself, but remember that your business will not grow if you are not investing more into it. Plan in advance to spend a certain percentage of your profits to develop your business further.

Find network marketing help and tips online. Many forums are available that have helpful and insightful advice. Find a forum that is relevant to you and spend a little time each day browsing for tips and tricks. Just be sure to limit the time spent reading about network marketing, so that your actual business does not suffer.

Do not insist or pressure people into buying your products. People should feel comfortable about choosing which products they want and how much they want to spend. Customers that bought something because they felt uncomfortable will not come back to buy more and will not recommend the product to their friends.

Focus on providing the proper information on your websites. Do not focus only on the sales pitch, but instead focus on the fact that the visitor is always thinking what is in it for me? Therefore, provide information they can apply to their lives, and lead a thin sales pitch until the customer is at the point where it can be driven home.

The fastest way is to build a network marketing business is to understand and learn about relationship marketing. Knowing what a person needs and wants is one of the keys to a successful network marketing business. Communication in those conversations is the beginnings of a relationship where you build a bond of trust.

Open up a dialogue with your network instead of just pushing products on it. Tell stories about your struggles and successes and keep people updated about the benefits of your projects. Show interest in the activities and plans of those in your network. This will help you develop good relationships, and can keep your members motivated.

Be careful with just how much information you give to your new prospects. Your goal is to build excitement and energy in the product. You want to give them information that gets them from prospect to a member of your downline. Don't try to sugar coat anything, but you don't need to spend time on a million details.

A fundamental factor to being successful with network marketing is to maintain a positive attitude. There will definitely be days and perhaps weeks when you fail to make a single sale or attract any prospects. It is understandable to want to feel discouraged during these times but you cannot let it get to you and hold you down. You must maintain a positive attitude because your primary job is to market. If you are anything less than positive, it will show and it will definitely affect your ability to attract buyers and prospects. No one wants to sign up with a loser!

This article serves as a good resource for you if you want be successful in network marketing. Apply all of these tips to the best of your ability and you should see success in your network marketing in no time. Just remember all of this information so that you can actually apply it, and if you need to reread the article so you can remember everything.

Virgin Media begins pushing its broadband to 120Mb

If you're one of Virgin Media's top-tier internet customers, you may soon see your service getting a little speedier. The Branson-backed company is boosting its top speed from 100Mbps to 120Mbps, thanks to a £110 million ($169 million) infrastructure investment. The majority of the network -- around 60 percent -- has yet to be supercharged, but you can use the coverage checker linked below to see if you're in-line for an early Christmas present from Sir Richard.

Cuba Culture Trips Back On As Licenses Renewed

MIAMI -- Travel companies say they are getting permits once again to take Americans on cultural trips to Cuba after the U.S. government tightened requirements over complaints that the tours were skirting a ban on outright tourism to the Communist island.

At least 20 have been granted a month after U.S. travel companies reported delays in processing their so-called people-to-people licenses for legal group travel to Cuba.

Travel operators say they have kept most of their itineraries intact, but some have added additional programming and eliminated others after Florida's Cuban-American Sen. Marco Rubio criticized the programs as essentially being cover-ups for tourism.

The Obama administration reinstituted the licenses over a year ago, allowing organizations to take U.S. citizens to the forbidden island for educational activities that promote contact with ordinary Cubans.

What will generate money for music artists? : Misc, music business ...

This article was contributed by Steven Cravis, a long time LicenseQuote publishing client who has learned from first-hand experience how to promote both his retail and commercial music licensing sales.

CD Baby offers SoundCloud partnership feature

Recently CDbaby announced it?s partnership and automatic send of CDbaby music to Soundcloud. All it takes is for each CDbaby musician interested in this feature to log in to CDbaby and opt into having all, or most of their music appearing on Soundcloud.

The only problem is: They are available as full length streaming tracks. By this I mean, if it is a 4 minute song, the full 4 minutes will be displayed as a streaming track to any listener. The reason I call this a ?problem? is that full length streaming in the digital age is similar to giving away the file.

I?ve had fans of my music write politely to tell me they could ?grab? mp3s from the streaming audio on my web site. Since then, I?ve replaced them with either short audio clips, or audio watermarked tracks. The only scenario I can see this being useful for is if your doing your own direct licensing deal for someone?s film, or tv, or other media project, and you want specifically them to be able to listen through the tracks streaming online, but not everyone else. In this case, CDbaby has an interesting option, checkmark ?Private?.

CD Baby?s own wording

See Cdbaby?s own wording:
?SoundCloud Private Tracks?

When you upload a track to SoundCloud, you have two options for how you want to share it with other users:

a) Public sharing means that anyone can listen to your track.

b) Private sharing is exclusive and means you have complete control over who has access to your tracks and who doesn?t.?

Private vs. retail sales purpose

But if you?re not using this for private purposes, I don?t think it?s going to help your music income if you publicly give away your full length streams of all the tracks that you also are attempting to sell elsewhere. People can just listen to the whole song online without buying it. Plus, at least in services like Spotify, Rhapsody and Pandora, the full stream plays generate money for the artists who own the content. But I don?t see anywhere that Soundcloud will pay anything for all the streams that will occur on a Soundcloud or CDbaby/Soundcloud account.

What will generate money for artists?

So, what will generate money for artists? It?s very simple. Make sure that:

1. Your music displayed on sites (which you could upload directly to Soundcloud and many other sites) is either 30, 60 or 90 second clips of audio, or is watermarked audio. ONLY stream full tracks of audio that you intentionally give away. For example: http://www.TheGiftMP3.com

2. Your music is iOS compatible. This means that it has code, such as Soundcloud or Bandcamp embedding code which works/displays well on Apple mobile devices; iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch. All Flash-only music players appear as a blank, functionless rectangle. Millions of people are using these devices to view web sites and check out music. It will take a while for all musicians, including myself, to transition our sites to this HTML5 code which is compatible with Apple devices.

3. Put iTunes and Amazonmp3 and/or your own shopping cart mp3 buy links close on the web page to your HTML5 music player.

4. View these music marketing tutorial videos in full screen high definition regarding increasing selling on iTunes, Amazonmp3 and Gumroad: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL598CA58D55016315

Thanks Steven Cravis for contributing this well researched article complete with your advice, suggestions and link to related tutorial resources!

Note: If you are a music publisher involved in commercial licensing and would like to share an article with our community of readers and licensing buyers (on this blog!), please submit your proposed article (intro with link or text) via our contact form.? We?ll be happy to review your article and reply if feel it may be a good fit for the type of music publishing and licensing subjects we? cover.

Westport FD Saves Home, Pets from Fire - Westport, CT Patch

?

Westport Fire Department?responded to a residential fire alarm at a Darbrook Road residence just before 9 a.m. Monday morning.?

The shift commander and a fire truck from headquarters were dispatched to investigate the cause of the alarm. Upon arrival at the residence the Assistant Chief walked up to the front door, heard the smoke alarms sounding and saw smoke in the residence towards the rear of the house, according to Westport Fire Department Assistant Chief John Plofkin, Jr.

The incident was then immediately upgraded to a structural fire response bringing three additional Engine companies and a truck company, Plofkin said.

Firefighters entered the home and found a fire in the kitchen which involved a dishwasher, adjacent cabinets and a portion of the floor.?

?A 1 ?? hand line was stretched to a side door while Engine 2 personnel were able to ?knock down? the majority of the fire with a pressurized water extinguisher,? Plofkin said.? ?Additional arriving companies were deployed to the basement area to check for fire extension while other companies did a search of the upper floors.??

A total of four family pets were located and moved to safety by firefighters.? The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Westport Fire marshal?s office and there were no reported injuries, Plofkin said.

?Residents are reminded to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on November 4th when we change our clocks,? he said.? ?The outcome experienced at this fire would have been a much different if it had not been for the early notification of the functioning smoke detectors and the premises having a monitored alarm system.??

FOR KIDS: Pathways to research: Problem-solving

Young researchers can become local heroes for taking on projects that help their friends and neighbors

Web edition : 12:05 pm

Pittsburgh?s many hills aren?t kind to bikers. Anyone hoping to pedal to work there has to contend with steep streets like Canton Avenue, which famously climbs at a nearly 40-degree angle. As a result, some residents avoid biking altogether.

But University of Pittsburgh graduate Micah Toll, 23, and a few friends recently launched an invention that they hope will increase the city?s pedal power: An electric bike called a Pulse PEVO. A superstrong battery powers the bicycle. Able to hit nearly 20 miles per hour without pedaling, it zips up the city?s most daunting hills. Toll hopes it will persuade people in Pittsburgh and elsewhere to get out of their cars and onto bikes.

Toll's success is but one, described here, illustrating how teens used problems in their community to inspire?a?research project.

Allen High School Proves Everything Really is Bigger in Texas

With 848 members, Allen High School?s Escadrille band is the largest high school marching band in the country.

?

Allen, Texas is a town known for its football.

So it may have come as a surprise to many when the homecoming ballot revealed that not a single football player made the list this year. In fact, the majority of nominees were band members.

And who were crowned homecoming king and queen?
Two members of the Allen Eagle Escadrille Band: Cade Snowden, drum major and saxophonist, won homecoming king. Liz Smith, the band's Vice President and a clarinet player, was crowned homecoming queen.

?Yahoo! Second time two band members got king and queen. I was happy,? said Allen Escadrille member Justin McNair, who plays the trumpet.

For Allen High School, that?s how it goes.

Of the school?s 5,000 students, 848 make up the Allen Eagle Escadrille, the largest high school marching band in the country.

?It?s definitely a backbone of the school,? senior Aaron Ly said.

The Allen Eagle Escadrille is made up of 710 marching band members, 78 drill team members and 60 color guard members. That number is equal to half the number of players in the NFL, or the capacity of approximately 15 greyhound buses, 120 minivans, or two full 747 airplanes.

When the Escadrille travels, whether it is for special events, contests or games, it requires 23 school buses, and three trucks filled with equipment.

At the opening game in late August in Allen?s new $60 million stadium, not only did band members take up a full section within the 18,000 seats, they covered the entire field at halftime.

According to Jimmy Maroney, Allen High School's agricultural science teacher, the band is so loud, and has such an impact, that their music steals the attention from more than just the fans.

?Our band will have an influence on the game,? said Maroney, speaking one afternoon from his classrooms. ?It?s big enough that it can be loud enough that the quarterbacks can?t hear, like what you might see in a pro stadium.?

Because of the bands size, students who are not band members almost always will have a friend in the band, or at least know someone in the band, said Ly.

Even teachers like Sarah Griffeth, who also teaches agricultural science, have found it rare to have a class without any band members.

?Half of my class is in the band,? said Griffeth, pointing to various students scattered around a classroom one recent afternoon.

Although Allen does not require try-outs for the band, being an Allen Eagle Escadrille member is not to be taken lightly. The students are required to practice from 7 to 9 a.m. everyday, but many can also be seen rehearsing throughout the day in instrument practice rooms around campus.

Escadrille trombone player Chris Simmons says that playing in the band is not only time consuming, but also hard work.

?It cuts into chemistry,? he said while entering into the band hall.

Allen Eagle Escadrille Band Director Charles Pennington said the band is also unique because many of the members are also involved in another sport or activity.

?We even have football players in the band. Cheerleaders even,? Pennington said. ?They show up on the field with their football uniform on and go march and play.?

For McNair, who in addition to playing the trumpet, is captain of Blue Crew Cheer, and was a homecoming nominee, balancing a social life along with cheer and band is a lot to take on. But when it comes to game day it is always worth it.

?I get the best of both worlds because I?m on the field and I get to march,? McNair said full of pride.

As the band director, Pennington confesses that getting to know each member individually is not easy due to the band?s size.

?Every kid is known by somebody [on the band staff], even though I may not know every single kid,? said Pennington. ?I keep trying but I?ll never learn them all.?

Despite having less time with the directors, when it comes down to it, several band members said they wouldn?t have the Escadrille any other way.

?I prefer being on a big band because it?s a lot more intense and you can feel the music go through you when you play because you?re surrounded,? said McNair. ?I?ve heard other bands play and they just don?t compare to the Allen High School band.??

Georgian grape pickers show government's challenge

SAGAREJO, Georgia (AP) ? The green grapes that Temuri Dolenjashvili and his wife snipped from the vines Sunday and emptied by the bucket into the back of their truck provide the only income for their extended family of five.

The harvest also gave a welcome day's work to an unemployed father and an elderly neighbor whose $75 monthly pension has to help feed her unemployed son, his wife and their sickly child.

Poverty and a lack of jobs are what worry Georgians most going into a tight parliamentary election on Monday that will decide the future of the pro-Western government of President Mikhail Saakashvili. For the grape pickers and others like them struggling to make ends meet on rich agricultural land and unable to sell their produce to Russia, the election offers some sense of hope.

Since coming to power nearly nine years ago, Saakashvili has transformed this former Soviet republic and put it on a path toward what Georgians hope will be eventual membership in the European Union and NATO.

The capital, Tbilisi, its streets once dark and dangerous, now shines. The stately historic facades along its main avenues have been restored to their former glory and the parks landscaped and lit.

Futuristic glass buildings have risen to house the Interior Ministry and Justice Ministry, their see-through walls intended to symbolize transparency. Among Saakashvili's greatest successes have been his creation of a modern police force and the eradication of everyday corruption.

His ambitious reforms and an inflow of Western investment have produced impressive economic growth and raised hopes among Georgians for a better life. Poverty and unemployment, however, have remained painfully high, especially in the countryside.

The official jobless rate is 16 percent, but this does not include those who sell vegetables they grow in their gardens by the side of the road or homemade wine in re-used plastic bottles.

Georgia has traditionally exported its vegetables, fruit, wine and mineral water to Russia, but this market has been closed since the two neighboring countries fought a brief war in 2008.

Just west of the Georgian capital, in the wine-producing region of Kakheti, the gleaming new buildings give way to small vineyards and fields of grazing sheep watched over by old men carrying wooden staffs. On rough gravel roads, horses pull carts piled high with stalks of dry corn.

Dolenjashvili and his wife had come from their home in the nearby town of Sagarejo to pick the last of the grapes in a vineyard that has been in his family for generations. This year they expected a total harvest of just under a ton, about half the amount of previous years because of two hail storms that had ripped up the vines.

They and the two others they had brought along to help with the harvest worked their way down the rows under a bright southern sun, cutting off bunches of grapes and dropping them into metal buckets.

All four said they planned to vote in Monday's election, but none would say whether they would support Saakashvili's party or an opposition coalition headed by billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili.

"I will vote for the one who will make our lives better and resolve the problem of no jobs," said the 53-year-old Dolenjashvili, whose nose and cheeks were a deep red from the sun.

One of his helpers was 54-year-old Givi Khirdaladze, who said that while he could make some money in the summer in the vineyards, he was unable to find any work in the winter. He lives with his wife and their 10-year-old daughter in state-owned barracks, unable to afford a home of their own.

Nadia Chiaberashvili, 70, wiped tears from her eyes as she described how she lives with her unemployed son and his family in a house with earthen floors and no heat or running water. She shook her head when asked how she planned to vote.

"She's afraid to say anything, afraid they will take away what little she has," Dolenjashvili's wife, Eka Sarukhanashvili, explained. In addition to her monthly pension of $75, Chiaberashvili's family receives about $62 in welfare benefits.

Many in Georgia have been hesitant to state which party they support, with polls showing a large percentage of voters declaring themselves undecided. Some express fears of repercussions, primarily from Saakashvili's United National Movement, which has come to dominate all branches of government.

Facing the first credible challenge to his rule, Saakashvili is under pressure from the United States and the European Union to prove his commitment to democracy by holding a free and fair election.

This election has added significance because it ushers in a new political system that will give greater powers to the parliament and prime minister. After Saakashvili's second and last term ends next year, the party that has a majority in parliament will have the right to name the prime minister, who will acquire many of the powers now held by the president.

Both the governing party and the opposition coalition Georgian Dream have reached out to rural voters by promising to pump money into agriculture, a sector long starved of investment. Ivanishvili, the opposition leader, who made his fortune in Russia, also has said he would work to restore relations with Moscow with the aim of opening up Russian markets to Georgian produce and wine.

For those who depend on their vineyards, these promises hold out hope.

After a morning of picking grapes under a hot sun, Sarukhanashvili set out lunch for the four of them in the shade of a tree. On an overturned crate, she placed cheese she had made from milk from their cow, pickled peppers from their garden, half of a chicken that they had raised, bread baked in a stone oven and a plastic bottle of their wine.

Once everyone was seated, she raised her glass and made a toast.

"I wish that after the election that everything will be better, that everyone will live better in a united Georgia," she said. "I wish that markets will open for our wine and that we will have such good harvests that I will be able to pay for my son's education."

Russian official snubs meeting of "Russophobic" Europe lawmakers

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A senior Russian official said on Thursday he would skip a meeting of European lawmakers next week because of "Russophobic" attitudes among them, in a fresh sign of tensions between Moscow and Europe.

Russia has rejected European criticism of its human rights record and of the two-year jail sentences handed to members of punk band Pussy Riot last month for a protest against President Vladimir Putin in a church.

Parliament speaker Sergei Naryshkin, a member of the ruling United Russia party, was to have been a key speaker at the October 1-5 session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg, France.

"But as the session's opening was nearing we felt that key strategic proposals of mine would not be heard by a number of leaders of the Parliamentary Assembly and a number of Russophobic delegations," Naryshkin said in televised remarks.

"I came to the conclusion that it will be possible for me to address a PACE session (only) when the conditions are suitable," said the chairman of the State Duma lower house.

Critics of United Russia, formerly headed by Putin and now by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, say it is helping orchestrate a Kremlin clampdown on dissent by hastily passing restrictive legislation, such as laws tightening controls of Internet and foreign-funded NGOs and increasing fines for protesters.

State-run RIA news agency reported that the rest of the Russian delegation would take part in the PACE session, which is due to discuss Russia's adherence to its obligations as a Council of Europe member, including over human rights, pluralist democracy and the rule of law.

Russia has made some "very positive steps", but some measures introduced raise serious concerns, PACE said in a document posted on its website.

The European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said this month that Russian authorities had been "chipping away" at fundamental rights and freedoms since Putin's return to the presidency in May.

Foursquare's 'Always On' feature tracks your VIPs near or far, Android app regains nearby check-in filter

DNP Foursquare 'Always On' keeps the checkins rolling no matter what

If you have an urge to always know what your close friends and family members are up to, then Foursquare has the remedy. The popular social network has announced the availability of its new "Always On" option which allows you to receive continuous check-ins from a selected list of people -- even if you have notifications disabled. This slick new feature gives you the flexibility to create a list of VIPs that you'd like to keep tabs on opposed to receiving a play by play of everyone else's weekend excursion. For now, the toggle can only be found on Foursquare's website, but we wouldn't be surprised if this toggle headed to the company's cadre of apps in the near future. The Android app specifically just received a new update that brings back the nearby friends check-in filter users lost in the upgrade to 5.0 (iOS and BlackBerry saw it return in August) plus a "social history" that shows if your friends have visited a location and how many times, as well as a redesigned me card.

Burge will be attending an upcoming hands-on training session for new franchisees at the Maui Wowi Mainland headquarters. The week-long training is designed to provide franchisees with the tools and support of a 30 year proven system to help make their businesses a success.

Qatari leader: Arab nations should intervene in Syria

EPA

A column of smoke rises over Damascus, Syria, on Wednesday after two bomb blasts were reported.

By NBC News staff and wire reports

UNITED NATIONS -- Arab nations should intervene in Syria given the U.N. Security Council's failure to stop the civil war in the country, Qatari Emir Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani said Tuesday.

"The Security Council failed to reach an effective position. In view of this, I think that it is better for the Arab countries themselves to interfere out of their national, humanitarian, political and military duties and do what is necessary to stop the bloodshed in Syria," Sheik Hamad, speaking through an interpreter, said in a U.N. General Assembly speech.

Western powers have made clear they are opposed to direct intervention and the Security Council will not sanction action against the wishes of Russia and China. President Barack Obama on Tuesday?called again for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad?but provided no clear direction forward.

The Syrian conflict grinds on. Cities are under attack leaving them crushed by heavy shelling. NBC's Bill Neely reports.

Sheik Hamad suggested that bypassing the U.N. Security Council would enable a peaceful transition of power in Syria.

"We had a similar precedent when Arab forces intervened in Lebanon in the mid-'70s ... to stop internal fighting there in a step that proved to be effective and useful," he added.

Sheik Hamad further urged all countries that believe in the cause of the Syrian people to provide "all sorts of support" to Syrians until they gain legitimate rights.

Activists say that 27,000 people have been killed in Syria's uprising, which began as peaceful demonstrations for reform 18 months ago but turned into an armed insurgency fighting to topple Assad, with sectarian overtones that could drag in regional powers.

An undated handout television grab taken from Iran's state-run news network Press TV shows its correspondent Maya Nasser who was killed in Syria Wednesday.

"The Free Army hit the general staff building in Damascus' Umayyad Square and dozens were killed in the two powerful blasts," the information office for the FSA military council said in a statement. Syria's Information Minister Omran Zoabi had earlier said that the blasts caused only material damage.

The army said four guards were killed and 14 wounded in what it said were suicide attacks. No senior officers were hurt in the blasts, which shook the whole city just before the start of the working day, it said.

Iran's Press TV also said Wednesday that one of its correspondents was killed in Syria covering the twin blasts and gun battles in the Damascus.

Facebook's DR Problem | Digiday

It?s just the kind of headline that Facebook rues: ?Fewer Than 1 Percent of Sales Can Be Tracked Back to Social Media.?

The natural conclusion: Facebook will never reach its ad potential because that means social advertising doesn?t work. Business Insider?s Henry Blodget quickly declared the study ?bad news for Facebook.? On the other side, early participants in Facebook?s nascent ad exchange are declaring it quite successful. In fact, the gobs of Facebook ad inventory convert better than regular Web publishing inventory for retargeting campaigns. As demand-side platform Triggit?s CEO Zach Coelius told me recently, ?It?s tons of cheap inventory. We?re seeing the post-click conversion rates are exponentially higher.?

These contradictory arguments will likely go on with Facebook, particularly as it moves to mobile. If Facebook ads don?t work well in driving sales on desktop, imagine how things will go in mobile. And yet it?s a big distraction for Facebook because its big advertising opportunity is with brands.

As I?ve noted previously, Facebook is not Google. The social signal is far different from the search signal. Search is unique. As Dynamic Signal CEO Russ Fradin tweeted, ?Nothing is as good as GOOG! You literally go there, tell them exactly what you want and then leave.?

Facebook doesn?t have this. Wall Street and Silicon Valley may wish it does, but it does not. This fact is beginning to dawn on the investor class. Venture capitalist David Pakman notes that Facebook?s stock woes are a result of the market ?rationalizing? as it realizes ?not all traffic is created equal,? particularly when Facebook?s around photo browsing and links to content. This isn?t very close to a transaction, so it?s not ?very monetizable.?

Instead, Facebook is left with the messy world of brand advertising, which, it bears mentioning, is far bigger than the direct-marketing world. Facebook is operating a hybrid business: a direct-response business based on its vast supply of ad impressions and a brand business based on the biggest marketers in the world. Right now, the focus often falls on the first side. That will inevitably improve with better targeting and better ad formats (and more of them, I?m sure).

The brand business will be more complicated but has more potential for Facebook. Jeff Dachis, the CEO of social agency Dachis Group, put it: ?Brand engagement has been intermediated and ill-quantified for decades. Normalizing social currencies will be key to engagement at scale for brand marketers.?

Iran: Hezbollah will defend us "easily" against Israeli attack

DUBAI (Reuters) - An aide to Iran's supreme leader said Israel's military threats had "put Israeli citizens one step away from the cemetery" and that Lebanese militant group Hezbollah was ready to hit back.

Yahya Rahim-Safavi, military adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the increasing threats from Israel to strike Iranian nuclear facilities were "foolish", the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported on Friday.

"The boldness and foolishness of Israeli officials in threatening the Islamic Republic, have put Israeli citizens one step away from the cemetery," he said.

"If, one day, the Israeli regime takes action against us, resistance groups, especially Hezbollah ... will respond more easily," said Safavi, a former commander in chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made increasing hints in recent weeks that Israel could strike Iran and has criticized U.S. President Barack Obama's position that sanctions and diplomacy should be given more time.

The heightened rhetoric has stoked speculation that Israel may attack before U.S. elections in November.

Hezbollah has said any attack on Iran would be met by strikes against Israeli and U.S. targets in the region, even if American forces played no role in the attack.

"A decision has been taken to respond and the response will be very great," Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said in a TV interview this month.

Shi'ite Muslim Hezbollah, founded with Iranian help during Lebanon's 1975-1990 civil war, has grown from a militia into a powerful political and military force. It fought a 34-day war with Israel six years ago in which 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and 160 people in Israel, mostly soldiers, were killed.

The Attacks After The Attack (The Note)

By MICHAEL FALCONE ( @michaelpfalcone ) and AMY WALTER ( @amyewalter )

NOTABLES:

U.S. AMBASSADOR KILLED IN LIBYA: The U.S. ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, died as Libyan militants stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, ABC's Kevin Dolak, Deab Schabner, Enjoli Francis, and Anthony Castellano report. Stevens, 52, was killed on Tuesday along with three other members of his staff as 20 gun-wielding attackers stormed the U.S. consulate, angry about an American made film that depicts Prophet Mohammad as a fraud and womanizer. Nearly a dozen Americans were inside the consulate at the time, guarded only by Libyan security. For nearly 20 minutes the Libyan guards exchanged fire with the attackers, who hurled a firebomb inside. http://abcn.ws/Sbas0e

THE FILM THAT STARTED IT: Explaining clips from the film, The Atlantic's Max Fisher writes: "The movie is called Innocence of Muslims, although some Egyptian media have reported its title as Mohammed Nabi al-Muslimin, or Mohammed, Prophet of the Muslims. If you've never heard of it, that's because most of the few clips circulating online are dubbed in Arabic. ? it's associated with Florida Pastor Terry Jones [who threatened to burn the Qur'an] ? Obviously, there's a lot to this story that's still unclear. What we do know is that some members of Egypt's sometimes-raucous, often rumor-heavy media have been playing highly offensive clips from the highly offensive film, stressing its U.S. and Coptic connections." http://bit.ly/NZdkSB

FROM THE WHITE HOUSE: President Obama's statement: "I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers. They exemplified America's commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives."

FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's statement: "the Americans we lost in yesterday's attacks made the ultimate sacrifice. We condemn this vicious and violent attack that took their lives, which they had committed to helping the Libyan people reach for a better future. America's diplomats and development experts stand on the front lines every day for our country. We are honored by the service of each and every one of them."

THE NOTE:

The attacks on the diplomatic facilities in Benghazi and Cairo, including the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three members of his staff, remind us how much of the campaign is out of the candidates' control.

Four years ago it was the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy and the financial crisis that threw the campaigns of Barack Obama and John McCain into unchartered territory. Obama took advantage and control of the chaos, while McCain wilted.

Romney's full throated criticism of the Cairo embassy's statement suggests that his campaign is going onto offense on this issue, and wants to turn this latest foreign policy crisis into a campaign issue:

"I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi," Romney said in a statement released last night. "It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

And he's taking the Republican Party with him. Republican National Committee chairman Reince Preibus tweeted around the same time: "Obama sympathizes with attackers in Egypt. Sad and pathetic." Joining in were other prominent GOP voices, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin who weighed in with her own scathing statement on the president's foreign policy leadership: "We already know that President Obama likes to 'speak softly' to our enemies. If he doesn't have a 'big stick' to carry, maybe it's time for him to grow one."

However, as ABC's Jake Tapper points out, the attacks by Republicans, including Romney's, do "not stand up to simple chronology. The US Embassy in Cairo issued a statement 'condemn(ing) the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims' - referring to the anti-Muslim movie allegedly inflaming the demonstrators, rioters, and attackers - but that statement was issued before the attacks on the diplomatic missions." (Read the rest of Tapper's take: http://abcn.ws/PbbHOl )

In addition, Romney is likely to face questions today about his decision to release a statement on the incidents overseas before all the dust had settled.

Early this morning, Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement the campaign was "shocked that, at a time when the United States of America is confronting the tragic death of one of our diplomatic officers in Libya, Governor Romney would choose to launch a political attack." (That was before it had been reported that more Americans, including the ambassador, had also been killed).

Moreover, taking on the president on the fight on national security is risky

The latest ABC News-Washington Post poll showed Obama with a 51-40 advantage on who voters trust more to handle terrorism.

Another unintended consequence: It could expose Romney's own weaknesses and gaps in experience on these issues. The president has an advantage in that he has access to report and information that no one else will get. That puts any challenger at a disadvantage.

NOTE IT!

ABC's RICK KLEIN: The campaign just took a serious turn toward foreign policy - and not in a way President Obama could have anticipated. Rather than emphasize his strengths - ending the Iraq war, the killing of bin Laden - the violent protests that killed a U.S. ambassador highlight anti-American sentiments as well as a flip side of the Arab spring. That, plus the new tensions with Israel, could give Mitt Romney a chance to make a case on ground he previously didn't consider fertile.

FAVORABILITY GAP REOPENS: AMERICANS LIKE OBAMA AGAIN. The latest ABC/Washington Post poll shows President Obama's favorable ratings resurfacing, ABC's Gary Langer writes: Barack Obama crossed into majority favorability among registered voters for the first time since spring ? The shifts in this survey poll re-open the popularity gap between Obama and Romney - now 8 points in Obama's favor, 52 percent vs. Romney's 44 percent, after closing to 4 points last week (within the margin of error), after the GOP convention and before the Democrats had their say. Obama's favorable vs. unfavorable ratings, 52-45 percent, are back in the positive zone, +7 percentage points, after dipping below the waterline last week, 47-49 percent. Romney, at 44-49 percent, remains underwater, for the 12th time out of 14 ABC/Post favorability polls this year. http://abcn.ws/SbfRnZ

? BUT INDEPENDENTS ARE SPLIT. More from ABC's Gary Langer: Obama's rating among independent registered voters, by contrast, is essentially flat - 46-49 percent favorable-unfavorable this week, 45-51 percent last week. Nor did he see any change among political moderates in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. http://abcn.ws/SbfRnZ

HISTORICALLY LOW RATINGS. Langer writes: In previous post-convention polling, two candidates have received at least numerically lower favorability ratings than Obama's and Romney's now - John Kerry in 2004 and Mike Dukakis in 1988. Several others were either numerically lower than Obama now, or in a similar position. http://abcn.ws/SbfRnZ

CONSERVATIVES VS. MITT. Taking criticism from Laura Ingraham, George Will, and Rush Limbaugh, Mitt Romney could be facing a crisis of confidence among members of his own party, ABC's David Muir reports for "World News." Muir, reporting from Las Vegas, notes that criticism has centered on Romney's economic plan, after ABC/Washington Post polling showed him lagging behind President Obama on the question of who will handle the economy better. Muir: "Many conservative critics now argue Romney must start delivering details. For example, on Romney's promise of tax cuts for all without raising the deficit, many economists asking which tax deductions he'll get rid of to make up the difference-so many deductions commonplace in America, like the mortgage interest deduction." FRETTING OVER ROMNEY IN A 'GIMME ELECTION.' ABC's Z. Byron Wolf and Rick Klein have more on those conservative worries: Conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham on Monday called 2012 a "gimme election" for Republicans. But she lamented a lack of strong branding in the Romney campaign's message. ? Other conservatives have joined in, albeit expressing less overt frustration than Will and Ingraham. "Speak Up, Mitt!" is the title of a piece by William Kristol in a forthcoming issue of the Weekly Standard. The Wall Street Journal's editorial page wrote Monday that "The GOP candidate might try explaining his policies. Just a thought." http://abcn.ws/RHwlJw

SWING STATE POLLS CAUSE GOP WORRY. ABC's Jonathan Karl reports: According to a GOP source with access to private polling being done by independent Republican groups (who are spending a lot of money tracking public opinion in the battleground states), Romney is in trouble in two must-win states: Ohio: Romney down 5 percent. Virginia: Romney down 4 percent. ? The good news: In Wisconsin ? Romney is only down 2 percent ? In Nevada ? the race is tied. http://abcn.ws/TJMmzy

NEW FROM CHICAGO - OBAMA AD: ROMNEY TAX PLAN DODGES DETAILS. ABC's Devin Dwyer reports: A new 30-second TV spot titled "Won't Say" begins airing today in Iowa, Nevada, Virginia and Ohio, the campaign said, hammering the Republican presidential nominee for personal secrecy with his own taxes and the specifics of his proposed tax reform plan. "You could lose the deduction for your home mortgage, college tuition, health care," the narrator says. "How much would you pay? Romney just won't say." http://abcn.ws/RHly27

OBAMA TAPS STAR POWER FOR CAMPAIGN CASH. After Obama and Democrats reported outraising Romney and Republicans in August, ABC's Devin Dwyer reports: President Obama is back on the money trail next week for another round of star-studded New York City fundraisers, featuring Beyonce and Jay-Z. The president will head to the Big Apple on Tuesday, Sept. 18, when he is expected to headline an intimate 100-person event at the rapper's 40/40 Club near Madison Square Park in Chelsea, his campaign announced today. ? Obama's last campaign fundraiser was Aug. 22, a basketball-themed evening in New York City dubbed the "Obama Classic" that was co-hosted by NBA legend Michael Jordan. http://abcn.ws/U7oNMX

BILL CLINTON GOES SOLO, BREAKS 9/11 TRUCE. Bill Clinton held his first solo rally of the campaign yesterday, and his event for President Obama broke the informal campaign truce on 9/11. Clinton called the right's strategy "militant" and "bitter," ABC's Devin Dwyer reports: "I believe we should be working, in an interdependent world, for an America of shared responsibility, shared opportunity, shared prosperity and shared membership in one American community. That's what I believe in," Clinton said. He said the opposing approach was a "a militant, bitter, anti-government strategy," though he did not mention the Republican candidate by name. http://abcn.ws/RRuq3W

PUTIN TO ROMNEY: THANKS. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Mitt Romney's infamous comment about Russia-that it's America's "number one geopolitical foe"-helps Russia clarify its views on missile defense, ABC's Kirit Radia reports from Moscow: "I'm grateful to him (Romney) for formulating his stance so clearly because he has once again proven the correctness of our approach to missile defense problems," Putin told reporters, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti. "The most important thing for us is that even if he doesn't win now, he or a person with similar views may come to power in four years. We must take that into consideration while dealing with security issues for a long perspective," he said. http://abcn.ws/U7pcyS

PAUL RYAN BUYS ADS IN HIS DISTRICT. ABC's Elizabeth Hartfield reports: Ryan, who represents the state's first congressional district, placed an ad buy with WISN Milwaukee that will begin running tomorrow, and Ryan campaign officials note, this will not be the only buy from the VP nominee. "As he has done in years past, Congressman Ryan will be airing advertisements in Milwaukee and Madison TV media markets in the run up to the November elections," Ryan campaign manager Kevin Seifert told ABC News. "This is the first in the series of ads that will be rolled out between now and November 6th by Ryan for Congress, and you can expect to see additional TV, radio and print advertisements." http://abcn.ws/QIHMRz

OBAMA SITS FOR 'PIMP WITH THE LIMP' INTERVIEW. ABC's Devin Dwyer reports: President Obama was heard on the South Florida airwaves this 9/11 Anniversary morning in a 10-minute radio interview with Miami's "Pimp with the Limp" DJ Laz from 106.7 WRMA-FM. "You're big time. You've got Pitbull and Flo Rida and all these guys just beating a path to your door," Obama said, buttering up Laz. "And so I'm hoping that I can get a little of that magic from you in this interview." http://abcn.ws/NnVWp7

ROMNEY RENEWS CALL FOR AFGHANISTAN WITHDRAWAL. ABC's Emily Friedman reports from Reno, Nev.: Mitt Romney, who failed to mention Afghanistan in his RNC acceptance speech, today renewed his call for American troops in Afghanistan to come home by the end of 2014. In a speech today that marked and paid tribute to the eleventh anniversary of 9/11, the Republican presidential candidate said: "Our goal should be to complete a successful transition to Afghan security forces by the end of 2014. We should evaluate conditions on the ground and solicit the best advice of our military commanders." http://abcn.ws/RLnlh1

THE SENATE GUESSING-GAME. After a series of candidate missteps, The New York Times' Jonathan Weisman and Jennifer Steinhauser report: "With less than two months until Election Day, the Senate landscape is both broader and more fluid than it has been in years, with control of the upper chamber now anyone's guess. Both parties have seen new opportunities and new challenges, but the net result is that Democrats appear to be in less danger of losing the Senate, while Republicans have a more difficult path to gaining the majority. Connecticut may be the biggest surprise. Two years after a decisive loss in her first Senate campaign, the Republican candidate, Linda E. McMahon, a former professional wrestling executive, is surging in polls. Wisconsin is also now tilting Republican." http://nyti.ms/QF3inU

$575 MILLION IN SWING-STATE ADS. USA Today's Martha T. Moore reports: "Presidential candidates and supporting groups have already spent $575 million on political ads in 12 swing states, according to an NBC News analysis released Tuesday. More than half the money, 55%, has been spent in the swing states of Florida, Ohio and Virginia. Romney and allies have outspent Obama and his forces, if narrowly, in seven states. Obama and his supporters have spent more in Florida, Ohio and Colorado, and the two sides are virtually tied in Virginia and New Hampshire, according to NBC, which based the report on data from SMG/Delta, an ad-tracking firm." http://usat.ly/Pi9EXk
