14 Food & Drink Events for June and Beyond - Event Wire - Eater ...

It's now officially June, a month that brings with it celebrations of very specific types of food and drink such as street food (World Street Food Congress), barbecue (Big Apple Barbecue Block Party) and craft beer (Savor). But there are also plenty of all-encompassing gastronomic experiences coming up this month and beyond, from the chef-studded Aspen Food & Wine Classic and Feast Portland to international events like the MAD Symposium in Copenhagen, Peru's Mistura festival, and the brand-new epic dinner party that is Belgium's Gelinaz! Here's the list:

World Street Food Congress
When: May 31 - June 9, 2013
Where: Singapore
What: Singapore is going to see 10 straight days of celebrating international street food as the World Street Food Congress launches on May 31. Not only will there be a jamboree featuring street foods from countries all over the world throughout the 10-day period, but there will also be an awards ceremony for categories such as the best street food city and the best street food writer. From June 3-4, folks such as Anthony Bourdain, Claus Meyer, James Oseland, Brett Burmeister, Johnny Chan and Pauline Loh will participate in the World Street Food Dialogue.

Cultivate
When: June 8, 2013
Where: San Francisco, CA
What: Chipotle is kicking off its Cultivate festival series in San Francisco this month with a pretty solid lineup of chefs alongside musical acts such as Mayer Hawthorne and The Walkmen. There will be demos from Bottega's Michael Chiarello, the Big Gay Ice Cream guys, Richard Blais, Amanda Freitag, and the trio of restaurateurs behind LA's newly opened Trois Mec, Ludo Lefebvre, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo. Chipotle (and its sister Shophouse) will be providing much of the food along with some local options in the tasting and artisans' halls.

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party
When: June 8 - June 9, 2013
Where: New York, NY
What: New Yorkers, get ready for a weekend of hardcore barbecue from a roster of some of the South's biggest pitmasters, including Drew Robinson, Mike Mills and more. There will also be plenty of music and seminars hosted by the likes of Chris Hastings, Sean Brock, Ashley Christensen, Mike Lata, John Currence and more.

Aspen Food & Wine Classic
When: June 14 - June 16, 2013
Where: Aspen, CO
What: As usual, a number of headliner names are stopping into Aspen this summer for the annual Food & Wine Classic. Expect to see Jos? Andr?s talking about (and possibly to) oysters, Top Chef challenges with Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, cooking demos with Jacques P?pin, plus conversations with panelists like Mario Batali, Rick Bayless, Danny Meyer and others.

Savor
When: June 14 - June 15, 2013
Where: New York, New York
What: For the first time, the epic celebration of craft beer that is Savor hits Manhattan this month with 76 craft brewers, plus food and beer pairings. Breweries include 21st Amendment, Bell's, Brooklyn Brewery, Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, New Belgium, Sam Adams and more. In the preceding week, there are also beer-related events at the likes of Otto Enoteca, Blue Smoke and beyond.

Huichica Music Festival
When: June 14 - June 15, 2013
Where: Sonoma, CA
What: California wine country gets another music and food festival with the Huichica Music Festival in June. Located at Sonoma's Gundlach Bundschu Winery, this festival pairs music from the likes of Blitzen Trapper, Fruit Bats and Jonathan Wilson with food from Portland's Bunk Sandwiches, San Francisco's Salumeria and more.

Young Guns Eve
When: June 23, 2013
Where: Los Angeles, CA
What: On the night of June 23, Eater will unleash its second-ever class of Young Guns, an elite group of the restaurant industry's rising stars. That same night, about 10 of those chefs will convene in Los Angeles for a blowout party that is open to the public featuring some incredible dishes, a three-hour open bar, and a performance by Yellow Red Sparks. Since the 2013 class of Young Guns is yet to be revealed, there's no chef lineup right now. But here, take a look through the many candidates.

Gelinaz!
When: June 30, 2013
Where: Ghent, Belgium
What: The end of the month brings with it a pretty insane dinner party in Belgium with 25 big-name chefs such as Inaki Aizpitarte, Eneko Atxa, Massimo Bottura, Danny Bowien, Kobe Desramaults, Magnus Nilsson, Daniel Patterson, Rene Redzepi, Davide Scabin, Ben Shewry and more. The dinner itself will last about seven or eight hours for about 70 lucky guests, with a party going on at the same time if you need a break from actual eating.

Looking Ahead:

MAD Symposium
When: August 25 - August 26, 2013
Where: Copenhagen, Denmark
What: Once again, Noma's Ren? Redzepi is hosting his highly anticipated food festival Mad Symposium in the late summer. The lineup isn't totally settled yet, but speakers include chefs such as Alex Atala, Fr?d?ric Morin, David McMillan, Christian Puglisi, Margo Henderson, Pascal Barbot and Roy Choi, plus other food luminaries such as fermentation expert Sandor Katz and Mexican cuisine expert Diana Kennedy.

Hawaii Food and Wine Festival
When: September 1 - September 9, 2013
Where: Oahu and Maui, HI
What: This third iteration of the Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong-founded food festival is bringing in a huge number of big-name talent, including Grant Achatz, Floyd Cardoz, Josiah Citrin, Chris Cosentino, Dominique Crenn, Dean Fearing, Hubert Keller, Mourad Lahlou, Anita Lo, Nobu Matsuhisa, Masaharu Morimoto, Charles Phan, Richard Rosendale, Nancy Silverton, Christina Tosi, Ming Tsai, Tetsuya Wakuda, Jonathan Waxman and more.

Mistura
When: September 6 - September 15, 2013
Where: Peru
What: Peru's annual gastronomic festival Mistura returns this year, reportedly with a special focus on seafood. For 10 days, the country will celebrate its entire gastronomic chain, from farmers to vendors to restaurants and culinary schools. It's organized by the Peruvian Gastronomy Society and in the past has been guided as well by Peru's own Gaston Acurio.

Meatopia UK
When: September 7, 2013
Where: London, England
What: New York's ode to all things meat is headed to London for the first time ever with a slew of butchers, chefs, live music, booze, and, of course, more meat than you know what to do with. Twenty-five chefs will each create a dish, while DJs spin and guests peruse art installations. Though the event was just recently announced, already Americans such as Aaron Franklin, Tim Byres and Seamus Mullen are in, as well as hometown chefs such as Fergus Henderson and Neil Rankin.

Feast Portland
When: September 19 - September 22, 2013
Where: Portland, OR
What: The second annual Feast Portland is back and pretty much everyone is going to be there: Hugh Acheson, April Bloomfield, Danny Bowien, Stuart Brioza and Nicola Krasinski, Sean Brock, Floyd Cardoz, Andrew Carmellini, Tom Douglas, Brad Farmerie, Jason Franey, Aaron Franklin, Duff Goldman, Stephanie Izard, Matt Lightner, Thomas McNaughton, Paul Qui, Andy Ricker, Sarah Simmons, Christina Tosi, Michael Voltaggio and, of course, Portland's own hottest chefs. Once again there will be a sandwich invitational and a night market, plus plenty of Northwest wine, dinners, classes and speakers.

Music City Eats Festival
When: September 21 - September 22, 2013
Where: Nashville, TN
What: Nashville is getting its own big-time food and music festival this year with the debut of the Music City Eats Festival. The Kings of Leon are behind the musical aspect, which includes a Tom Petty tribute called Petty Fest Nashville. The city's top talent ? including Erik Anderson and Josh Habiger, Matt Farley, and Sarah Gavigan ? will be preparing dishes at the Flavors of Nashville. Meanwhile big-name chefs from all over will come in for Harvest Night, including John Besh, Tom Colicchio, Mike Lata, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, Nancy Silverton and Jonathan Waxman. It's the same weekend as Feast Portland, so choose wisely.
