A specialist in skin cancer at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis has received a $1.6 million grant to continue studying melatonin as a skin protectant.
Dr. Andrzej Slominski got the grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, a subsidiary of the National Institutes of Health. The money will be used over five years.
He is professor of pathology and director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship Program and Skin Cancer Division at the Memphis center. His study is "Role of Exogenous Melatonin in Skin Biology."
